Brock Lesnar: Fighting Champion?

Brock Lesnar’s win over Roman Reigns in the Wrestlemania 34 main event meant The Beast was breathing some rarefied air as one of the few men to hold a major championship in the WWE for over a year.  While the WWE Universal Title has a fairly short lineage, the WWE World Title – WWE’s longstanding premier championship – has only had ten reigns that were over 365 days.  And only two of those happened in the last 30 years, when the title is defended more often.

But it’s that aspect – how often the title is defended – that wrestling fans have tended to raise an eyebrow at during Brock’s reign.  18 WWE PPV events have been held since Goldberg won the Universal Title at Wrestlemania 33, and Brock has only defended at 6 of them.  Add in a handful of house shows and exactly ZERO Raws, and you can see why Lesnar may not be perceived as a fighting champion.

So WWE fans wonder – 6 title defenses in 413 days and counting.  WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 30 DAY RULE??

Well, Good Brothers Wrestling has put in the work, dug into the statistics, and determined that WWE fans may not be seeing the big picture.  I mean, sure, the Universal Title falls under the 30-day rule of all wrestling championships, and you definitely don’t even see Brock every 30 days, much less see the Universal Title defended.  However, WWE is but a global company.

Here’s what we uncovered (thanks in part to the IWD for earth-bound data)

GREATEST ROYAL RUMBLE: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. ROMAN REIGNS

King Abdullah International Stadium, Jedda, Makkah, Saudi Arabia

brock_grr
Or course, we all remember Brock’s surprising victory over Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania, and the controversial Universal Title rematch at the Greatest Royal Rumble. That was just 25 days ago.

ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA TOUR: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. KANE

United Center, Chicago, IL, USA

brock_chicago
Brock had a pair of house show matches in March this year. He defended the title against Kane on the Road To Wrestlemania Tour stop in Chicago, and then in a Triple Threat Match with Kane and Braun Strowman at Madison Square Garden.

ANDROMEDA STRAIN: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. THE PATHFINDER

The Ark, NGC-206, Andromeda Galaxy

brock_andromeda
Without an enormous satellite, WWE fans probably missed Brock’s title defense against The Pathfinder at The Ark, Andromeda’s premier sporting facility, back in February of this Earth year.

ROYAL RUMBLE: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. BRAUN STROWMAN vs. KANE

Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA, USA, Earth, Milky Way Galaxy

brock_rr
Brock successfully defended the Universal Title in a huge Triple Threat Match against Kane and Braun Strowman at the 2018 Royal Rumble. Braun is still feeling it.

“ALIEN VS. MONSTER”: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. SERPENSOR

Hoag Arena, Inner Luminous Ring, Hoag’s Object

brock_hoag
Brock spent most of the end of 2017 in a program with the monster Serpensor on Hoag’s Object. Billed as “Alien vs. Monster” (Lesnar is known as “The Alien” in several of the galaxies outside the Milky Way), the two faces off in mid-November and then again in a bloody Boxing Match on the day after Earth Christmas. Art Hoag himself couldn’t imagine the brutality!

ARENA MASSACRE: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. KESHORN WALCOTT

Chaguanas Arena, Chaguanas, Trinidad

brock_trinidad
Brock took on Olympic medalist javelin thrower Keshorn Walcott in Trinidad in October of 2017. Trinidad does not currently get the WWE Network, so most WWE fans weren’t able to see this one. While severely outmatched from a size perspective, Walcott’s javelin was legal to use in the match. It did not turn out well for him.

NO MERCY: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. BRAUN STROWMAN

Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA, Earth

brock_nm
Brock defended the title against the Monster Among Men Braun Strowman at No Mercy 2018.

SUMMERSLAM: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. BRAUN STROWMAN vs. ROMAN REIGNS vs. SAMOA JOE

Barclay Center, New York, NY, USA, Earth

brock_ss
Who could forget Brock’s only Fatal Fourway title defense with some of the biggest (physically) stars on Earth?

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. SAMOA JOE

American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX, USA, Earth

brock_balls
In perhaps the dumbest named PPV in WWE history, Lesnar took on the Samoan Submission Machine and barely made it out with the title.  Lesnar would take on Joe twice more at WWE House Shows in Detroit and Tampa.

CR7 LEGACY “REVENGE”: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. THE ANCIENT ONE

Sextans Palace, Cosmos Redshift 7

brock_cosmos
Brock made the grueling 12.9 billion light year trek to Cosmos Redshift 7 back in June of 2017 to renew his longstanding rivalry with The Ancient One. David Sobral and his team of astronomers could never have imagined the thrilling latest chapter in the Lesnar/Ancient One feud when they published their discovery of this galaxy in the Astrophysical Journal!

IYH MINDF*CK: BROCK LESNAR (c) vs. DAMIEN DEMENTO

The Outer Reaches Of Your Mind

brock_demento
Back in May of 2017, Brock was unexpectedly transported across time and space to the outer reaches of your mind, where he was confronted by the lunatic Damien Demento, who had clearly grown powerful in metaphysics since leaving WWF in 1993.  Meltzer gave it -** to what was basically a glorified squash match.

WRESTLEMANIA 33: GOLDBERG (c) vs. BROCK LESNAR

Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL, USA, Earth, Milky Way

brock_wm33
This is where Brock won the title.
