Hey yo Good Brothers’ Nation! The days are long and the nights are hot! All of you Ring if Honor Fans know what that means, BEST IN THE WORLD 2018 IS HERE! That’s right it is time for the newest installment of one of RoH’s biggest shows of the year, Best in the World and the card for this year is more loaded than an Outback baked potato!
I’m extra stoked this year as I’ll be meeting up with the Good Brothers, with my brother in tow, and we will make the trek up to Baltimore for the show! It is always a good to get together but even more so when we get to share our favorite past-time, pro wrestling. Who knows, maybe we’ll spring for a hotel and have a legendary hotel from hell match (tune in to the podcast if you’re lost).
This year has been a banner year for the sport and it seems like with each event, our favorite promotions just upping the ante. Best in the World seeks to deliver with RoH’s best card to date for 2018! Let’s take a match by match look at what’s in store for us this Friday, June 29th.
* ROH World Championship Triple Threat match – Cody versus Marty Scurll versus Dalton Castle (c).
Let’s just get this out of the way, pretty much every match on the card could be match of the night! This match is of course no exception. There are some major questions that will be answered by the end of this match!
- Will Dalton Castle finally have a championship defining match against two of the hottest stars in the business, will he continue to have a ho-hun run on top or will the peacock era come to an end?
- How will The Villain co-exist with fellow Bullet Clubber Cody and can he finally win the big one?
- Will this match spell the end of Cody in the Bullet Club and will this night become known as the beginning of the “Summer of Cody”?
Excitement level: Jumping up and down
Prediction: Cody
* ROH World Tag Team Championship match – The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) versus The Briscoes (Mark & Jay Briscoe) (c).
Tag team wrestling does not get any better than The Bucks vs Dem Boys! Each time these brothers square off, the fans reap the benefits. How will The Bucks fair against this grittier, more aggressive incarnation of The Briscoes, I can’t wait!
Excitement level: Jumping up and down
Prediction: The Briscoes
* ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship match – Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA, EVIL, & BUSHI) versus The Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan, & Vinny Marseglia) (c).
Six-man tag matches either bring it or send you to the concession stand. The level of talent in this ring can go toe to toe with anyone in the world, but will it pay off? If all else fails, maybe I can get at shot at grabbing Vinny’s axe.
Excitement level: Sitting upright
Prediction: The Kingdom (dq)
* ROH World Television Championship Baltimore Street Fight match – “Hangman” Adam Page versus Punishment Martinez (c).
I’m not sure what a Baltimore Street fight consist of, I didn’t watch “The Wire”, maybe that would have helped. What I do know is these two guys are two of the best up and coming talents in the world. Any promoter worth his salt could build around either one of these guys and both are really hitting their stride. One thing is for sure, this is just one more main event level match on this card!
Excitement level: Standing
Prediction: Punishment
* Jay Lethal versus Kushida
Lethal vs Kushida, do I really need to say more? Jay Lethal very well may be the best in the world today, the argument could certainly be made anyway. Kushida is a championship level competitor himself, so this should be great.
Excitement level: Standing
Prediction: Jay Lethal
* Austin Aries versus Kenny King.
The Belt Collector is back in his old stomping grounds to meet up with Kenny King. Hey guess what, both of these guys are awesome. I can’t say this would be a PPV main event, but it for sure could close a show.
Excitement level: Standing
Prediction: Austin Aries
* Bully Ray versus Flip Gordon.
Talk about a complete clash of styles. Will Bully Ray over power and ground Flip Gordon or can Gordon wear down the denizen of Dudleyville? I think it will be great to see a legend like Bully working with such a new and exciting young star.
Excitement level: Edge of my seat
Prediction: Flip Gordon
* Sumie Sakai, Mayu Iwatani, Tenille Dashwood, & Jenny Rose versus Kelly Klein, Hazuki, Kagetsu, & Hana Kimura.
So I’m a little surprised we’re getting an 8-woman tag, instead of a one on one for the title but it is good to see these ladies getting a spot on the card. This will be a good match to get the night started and I look forward to seeing what these ladies can do!
Excitement level: Sitting upright
Prediction: Sakai, Iwatani, Dashwood and Rose
So there you have it folks! I for one cannot wait for Friday night to get here! If you can’t be there, check out availability with your TV provider or stream through Honor Club or the FITE app!
